The Straits Times - Buffet of activities to mark racial harmony month
24 June 2008
BOARD games, community quizzes and a story telling contest - these are just morsels of the whole buffet of racial harmony programmes to be rolled out by the People's Association (PA) in July.
The PA, together with its grassroots organisations and five Community Development Councils, have put together more than 45 programmes to reach out to as many people as possible through their love for arts, food, games, sports and hobbies.
In a preview of the programmes on Tuesday, PA chief Tan Boon Huat stressed the importance of racial harmony with the 'threat of terrorism' and also how the younger generation is now faced with 'many things clarmouring for their attention'.
Efforts are also being made to include new immigrants in the festivities, such as through mass walks and home stay programmes.
