2 June 2007

SINGAPORE : A fusion cooking competition will give the two-month long racial harmony celebrations a fiery start, with 80 students from 13 schools taking part.

Each team, which has students from at least two different ethnic groups, will attempt to sell their concoctions to the public at VivoCity.

The cooking competition is part of a community programme called "Wok of Life!".

It was launched on Saturday together with the Orange Ribbon celebrations, an event that lasts the entire month of June and July.

One highlight is a programme where 50 youths visit families of different ethnic groups to learn about their culture.

People's Association Deputy Chairman Mr Lim Boon Heng, who was present for the ceremony, emphasised the importance of trust in relationships between people who work, live and play together. - CNA /ls
