The Straits Times - Anglican leader to give lecture

03 December 2007

WHAT IT IS

THE Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will give a public lecture on Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton Millennia Singapore.

The lecture, jointly organised by the Anglican Diocese of Singapore and Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (Muis), is part of an initiative to build inter-faith ties and understanding by giving key players the chance to meet and engage one another on such issues.

The lecture will be chaired by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and also Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.

WHY IT MATTERS

Promoting religious understanding is paramount in a multi-religious society like Singapore.

Also, the Government is promoting Singapore as an ideal venue for inter-faith dialogue.
