Some 250 people of different races and religions attended an iftar function organized by The Harmony Centre at An-Nahdhah Mosque in Bishan yesterday. The turnout was more than the 120 expected.
Commenting on the good response, the centre’s head, Muhammed Haniff Abdul Razak, said that after news of the function spread, more people and religious organisations were interested in taking part.
The function was attended by various religious, community and youth leaders, including a representative from the Inter-Religious Organization (IRO).
Senior Minister of State (Law and Home Affairs) and Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee was the guest-of-honour for the event, which saw Habib Hassan Al-Attas, the imam of Ba'alwie Mosque, presenting a lecture on the significance of Ramadan.
Young Sikh Assocation president Hernaikh Singh said that every opportunity for interaction should be maximized. Ivan Spencer Wong, a Roman-Catholic from the Saint Vincent De Paul Church, said that the iftar function was a good opportunity for him and his family to understand what is Ramadan and Islam.
