Tamil Murasu - Let's Celebrate Hari Raya And Deepavali As Deeparaya

01 October 2008

Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng has said that Singaporeans should celebrate Hari Raya Puasa and Deepavali - which both fall on the same month - together (as Deeparaya). Mr Wong told Tamil Murasu that Singaporeans should take part in these festivities together, adding that doing so would deepen the bond between our communities as well as foster racial and social harmony.

Noting that we should not take our racial and religious harmony for granted, he reminded Singaporeans that events taking place in various other countries demonstrated the social ruin caused as a result of a lack of racial and religious harmony.

Picture shows Mr Wong Kan Seng, who is also the Home Affairs Minister, breaking fast at Masjid Khadija on Sep 11 with mosque chairman Ustaz Haji Ali Haji Mohammed.
