Cabinet Ministers have expressed confidence that Singapore's strong social cohesion will stand up to the test of the latest Jemaah Islamiyah arrests.
They say Singaporeans are rational and will not react emotionally.
Wong Kan Seng, Home Affairs Minister, said: "Life must go on - this particular episode of JI, they're just a small group. The great majority of Singaporeans do not support the group and their activities, they condemn them be they Chinese Malay Indians."
As the actions contemplated by JI are not directed to one ethnic group but Singapore as a whole - so Singapore will stand together united to deal with this problem.
"Lim Swee Say, Environment Minister, said: "Based on what I have gathered from the grassroots organisations, from friends, from today's function, I am confident that Singaporeans are united and that we are more ready to ride up this challenge and I am very sure that all of us can come out even stronger, even more united as we move ahead into the future.
