SCDF launched new edition of Civil Defence Emergency Handbook

As part of its on-going efforts to raise civil defence awareness and prepare the population to deal with emergencies, SCDF has launched its latest edition of the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook, the seventh in the series, on 4 Dec 2010. The handbook was launched by Assoc. Prof. Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs at Nee Soon East Community Club.

The latest edition includes new topics such as information on basic first aid for sprains, stroke and fits, car fires, as well as advisories on earthquakes and typhoons for those travelling overseas.

iPhone / iPad Apps

SCDF also rolled out its first iPhone and iPad Application on 4 Dec 2010. This app on Fire Safety teaches the public important life-saving skills in fire prevention and safety. Topics include what you should do when your clothes catch fire, how you should safely escape from a smoke-logged room and how to put out small fires using a fire extinguisher. Users will be able to view emergency procedures via the interactive and step-by-step animation and videos.

SCDF will be rolling out three other apps on Basic First Aid, CPR, and Unconventional threats and peacetime emergencies in the future.
