The Community Engagement Programme (CEP) celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. Launched on 9 February 2006 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the CEP seeks to build social cohesion and communal harmony in Singapore.
About 700 CEP community leaders attended the National CEP Dialogue on 19 March 2011. The Guest-of-Honour was Prime Minister Lee. Community leaders had the opportunity of a dialogue with Prime Minister and the Ministers leading the CEP clusters.
Over the years, the coordinating ministry, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the CEP cluster lead agencies, viz. Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the People’s Association (PA), have brought on board religious groups, ethnic-based organisations, voluntary welfare organizations, educational institutions, the arts community, academia, media, businesses and unions, and grassroots organisations. Under the CEP, we build networks of trust through programmes and activities, develop capabilities through training programmes, and build operational readiness through exercises.
