Light drizzle and waterlogged field did not dampen the spirit of participants who turned up at the Community Bonding Day 2009 – A Fabric of Many Colours organized on 30th August 2009 at Pasir Ris Central. Participants with coupons arrived half an hour before the event, grabbing up seats and queuing up for door gifts.
This year’s theme “A Fabric of Many Colours” signifies citizens of different races and religion working closely, hand in hand to achieve a common goal to progress as a nation.
There were performances put up by snake charmer, poof the clown, the impersonation of Lydia Sum and fire eating by son of the legendary Bosco Francis who cast in the show named “My Magic”. Participants also enjoyed treats like soya bean drink, grass jelly drink, ding ding candy, soya bean curd and muah chee, courtesy of Loyang Tua Pek Kong.
A Kompang welcome performed by Al-Istighfar Mosque and a lion dance display welcomed the Guest of Honour DPM Teo Chee Hean. Community Bonding Day 2009 was officially declared opened by GOH, Special Guest Dr Ahmad Magad, Commander Bedok Police Division AC Lim Kok Thai and Commanding Officer Pasir Ris Neighbourhood Police Centre DSP Jarrod Nair. This was followed by the traditional silat display by Al-Istighfar Mosque and the Kenote dancers by Bethesda Pasir Ris Mission Church.
