SINGAPORE - Throughout the year, neighbourhoods are filled with activities that bring together people of different races and religions.
So if you have a "friendship" story, the organisers of this year's Orange Ribbon Celebrations want to hear from you.
An online photo blurb contest, What's Your Story?, will ensure that Singaporeans' collective experiences of friendship across cultures will help to build a common narrative among Singaporeans, and more. That is one of the initiatives of this year's celebrations.
Mr Zainudin Nordin, Mayor of the Central Singapore District, said: "We also intend to promote this celebration with the permanent residents and our new citizens - to ensure that the cosmopolitan (Singaporean) also understands that we need to continue to live together, work together and enjoy life in Singapore."
A host of activities across the island have been lined up, including a conference for youths to discuss ways to promote social harmony.
The celebrations will end with an event called Friendship Without Borders on July 23, in the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games.
This will be held at the Arts House and River Promenade.
There will also be a drive to collect pledges in support of racial harmony. The organisers hope to garner 50,000 new pledges online in order to achieve their target of 201,000 pledges by July 23.
