Working Together In Harmony

Date : 12 September 2009

The Racial Harmony-cum-Student Mentoring project was jointly organised by teachers from New Town Secondary School and Yuhua Primary School, both of which belong to MOE Cluster West One.

About 40 pupils were involved in this project to assist student NE ambassadors of Yuhua Primary School in conducting their Racial Harmony Games Day for the whole school on the 21st July 2009. The role of student leaders from New Town Secondary School was to mentor and assist their Primary school counterparts to plan, organise and run the games stalls. In all, 5 different game stations were conceptualised and manned.

Prior the event, pupils from both schools met twice to discuss and prepare for the event. The role of teachers was to supervise the students and ensure that the games were age-appropriate and safe.

On the actual day, starting from 8am, the students performed their responsibilities as the different cohorts of pupils were scheduled to visit the booths.

Ms Nancy Sim, NE coordinator of Yuhua Primary School, briefing the participants on the objectives of the event.

Moe Khaine of New Town Sec was more than a mentor to his charge as he encouraged him to stand to the occasion. Working hand-in-hand to engage visitors.

The Guzheng display was a crowd-puller. Solving the puzzle as a team.
