In Celebration his ROD from Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Corporal Kok Yuen Chin was “thrown” into a 12 meter deep well as part of his celebration in leaving SCDF, though most of the people in the camp know he can’t swim and was afraid of water.
CPF Kok was well liked by his peer, always smiling and even bought snacks back to Singapore when he went back Malaysia for voting over the weekend. He would return to Melaka every weekend to visit his family.
His colleagues celebrated his Operationally Ready Date (ORD) by throwing him into Tuas View Fire Station pump well, which was used for testing of fire engine pumps and training purpose. When he did not resurface, few of his colleague dive in to search for him but could not be found. He was pulled out only after the water was being drained out.
A staff sergeant and Warrant officer who was on shift duty then was arrested for investigation. While SCDF ban such practices, its often conducted as a happy event to mark the end of NSF ORD, which is a happy occasion.
CPL Kok body has since been taken back to Melaka
